Hurricane Ida | 2021/08/29

Nederlands – (English more beneath)

Hurricane IDA | 2021/08/29

English

On the 25th of August I visited my mother in Germany with her birthday and I was back in Rotterdam the 26th. Next day, the 27th I heard about a big hurricane approaching the the US and that everyone was preparing and busy evacuating/leaving the area.

Zo I get to know and started to investigate and took action to make the damage and impact as small as possible.

KM/H and mph not the same

Now, 3 month later, I get in touch with Weather.com because of a mistake in the system providing wrong information to users and visitors of the website. The problem is that the system doesn’t deliver the right speed of the winds because it makes miles and kilometers the same. So a hurricane  with windspeeds of 185 km/h is not the same as a hurricane with 115 km/h of 150 km/h are not as strong as 241 km/h. It’s a big difference and much more dangerous as it looks like. I hope they will correct this situation a.s.a.p.

So in my case I get the idea that it is not as dangerous as it really was. Only by the urgency responded in the news-  channels I got more concerned about the situation. Because they reported that this storm could be more devastating than Katrina.

Communication and efficient cooperation

I am not so much concerned and busy about the weather conditions in the world every day, because it’s much more effective to bring the consciousness of the people to a higher level where the weather disasters and also the climate problems could be solved much more easily.

By example. If I had an active cooperation with meteorological institutes in the Netherlands or in the VS I would be better informed around the weather situation

  • and I could help better and more complete
  • it would be more clear and professional to document the results.

With other words: I know how we could solve the climate problem and for example, make the climate summit in Glasgow a historical breakthrough.

Back to the situation in August. I was focused on the approaching landfall and impact on Louisiana of Ida and had no idea about what came in the follow up and way across the country to NYC. That it could cause so much damage and even tragic deaths wasn’t in my awareness otherwise I could help to realize a different result.

This tragic fact makes clear how important it is to work together and have people with special skills on the right position. Let us level up our consciousness to create a beautiful future without any disaster like this.
